Every Sunday in Spain it amazes me and warms my heart to see families and friends gather inside or out, enjoying each other’s company, and actually sitting down to have a meal together. This week I share my experience of the European notion “Switch off Sundays” and how this S.O.S. has been life-changing for me, my family and can be for you too. “Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a... “The jump is so frightening between where I am, and where I want to be. Because of all I may become, I will close my eyes and leap.” - Mary Anne Radmacher Wow. We all get an entire extra day this year to embrace and fill with whatever we chose! Let yourself wander, wonder, and indulge in Kairos (magical time) instead of Chronos (clock time). This shift will begin your leap in the direction of your dreams. A Zen Buddhism quote reminds us to “leap and the net will appear.” I vividly remember two moments in my life where I... Sometimes I am so ungrounded that I feel like I am going to float away. I am a very idealistic person with 1000 different ideas flying through my brain a minute for ways that the world could or should work better, big idea things that I should do, different things that could be designed better, projects I have been meaning to get to, places I want to go. This is great, I love the way my brain works, but sometimes I have to remind myself to come back down to earth. Being unsettled is..unsettling. There are a lot of lifestyle... Get the full story

The month begins with Mercury still in retrograde. If you read my last post, you may recall that in the language of astrology, Mercury refers to mindset, communication and travel. When Mercury appears to move backwards in sky, it suggests an opportunity to review your progress over the past few months. What have you been doing since September 17th to review, retreat, reorganize and reconnect? Are you taking time to slow down and FOCUS before you hit “send”? Have you experienced any technical glitches and/or communication snafus? I can’t help but think of Judson McMillan, who until September 29th was... Get the full story

A couple of years ago the concept of going on a juice cleanse still occurred to me as unnecessary and silly. I didn’t see the point in depriving myself of delicious food and shocking my body just to look slim for a couple of days and then to put on the weight just as quickly again. It wasn’t until my friend persuaded me to do join her on a juice cleanse for moral support that I came to realize that I was wrong all along. I agreed to do it to as I thought it wouldn’t hurt to give my... Get the full story

We are a sleep deprived species. In the UK the prevalence of insomnia is 37%, according to a study published recently. But insomnia and sleep deprivation not only result in the obvious tiredness and irritability; it’s also linked with increased rates of depression, anxiety and even pain. My hypnotherapy practise is full of women with this problem. But what is at the root of all this sleeplessness? Issues I see coming up time and again are of stress, a need to try to be ‘perfect’, an inability to switch off and make time to relax, excessive pressure and worry. Does... Get the full story

This season was pretty awful when it comes to allergies, especially in New York, an unsuspecting danger zone, considering its relatively little greenery. I got lucky — I started taking daily doses of two OTC medications due to an entirely separate allergic reaction before allergy season commenced, so I was inadvertently protected. After a while, though, I noticed I was sneezing, experiencing itchy eyes, and sniffling like the rest of NYC’s humanity. Had the meds worn off? Since I generally prefer to avoid taking any kind of medication, and the medication I was taking was apparently ineffective anyway, I sought out... Get the full story

Today, I want you to take a moment to think about how you’re living your life. Do you spend more time escaping from your life or creating it? Do you always come up with reasons why it’s not the right time to go after certain opportunities? Do most of your actions remove you from the present moment because of how unhappy you are? Maybe it’s getting lost in TV shows, movies, vacations, food, alcohol, daydreaming, making excuses for why you can’t do all the things you want to be doing… Or do you spend more of your time taking action,... This might sound like a shameless plug for SERENE considering I’m the lead for the New York Office, but I love SERENE Social. Do you ever see or observe a group of people and long to be a part of them? Not for any of the benefits you might receive from being connected to them, but just because they have each other, because you want to belong. I might have always felt that way, I might still feel that way at times as well, but never with SERENE. There’s no “you can’t sit with us” vibe or exclusivity about us.... Get the full story
