For some of us, it’s pretty cold outside, and for many that means a wet nose or a winter bug from time to time. To ward off winter colds naturally we turned to holistic health practitioner Michelle Mitchum of The Orange Moon to give us some insight in what to try before heading to the drug store or making a doctor’s appointment, and she shared a few nuggets with us:
“If you find that you are having little head congestion, before you run to your doctor to have him/her prescribe a decongestant, or before you go to the drug store and purchase an over the counter remedy- try some good ole’ “Oil of Oregano”. I consider this oil, ‘magic in a dropper’, because of it’s anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties.
If your suffer from mild sinus infection, a little steamed Oil of Oregano, will help clear the infection. Start by boiling a pot of water, (16 ounces), and add 5 drops of the oil to the water. Remove the water from the stove, and place your head about 12 inches above the pot. Lastly, place a white towel over your head, and inhale the steam for about 2 minutes. Do this about 4 times a day until you feel better.
Cold and flu season is upon us. It is important to boost your immune system, and keep away the ‘heebie-geebies’. An effective way to protect your health, from the inside it to consume loads of garlic….that’s right. A clove of smelly garlic a day, will keep the flu away. Like Oil of Oregano, garlic has immune boosting, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. Garlic also reduces the risks of cancer, hypertension and a few other ailments. Garlic is a miracle vegetable indeed.”
